Fine Arts Guild plans paper quilling class, May 3

Vinton Guild of Fine Arts artist Barb Campbell will hold a paper quilling class on Tuesday, May 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. The class costs $10 per person for Guild members, $15 for the general public. Supplies are furnished; bring a steady hand! It will be held at the Guild’s new studio space in the Old West School Building, 811 D. Ave. in Vinton. Please email barbcampers5@aol.

Spring Family Conference to feature Joan Brock, Aprill 23

The public is invited to the Keynote address for the Spring Family Conference hosted on the Iowa Braille School Campus, April 23, 2016 at 8:30-10:00 am in the Auditorium. Keynote Speaker: Joan Brock At the age of 32, Joan Brock suddenly lost her sight from a rare eye disease, in a three week period...WHILE working at the Iowa Braille School.

P.E.O. Chapter HG to hold meeting program by Martha Long on Genealogy

P.E.O. Chapter HG will meet Monday April 11 at 7:30 pm at the Horridge House. Hostess is Robin Martin, assisted by Yvonne Fischer. The program will be given by Martha Long on genealogy.

Scout Troop 47 plans can/bottle drive April 9

Vinton Boy Scout Troop 47 will be holding a can and bottle drive this Saturday, 9 April at the Vinton Middle School parking lot.  The event will occur rain or shine and will run from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.  Please bring your empty bottles and cans – no waiting, no sorting, no counting;  just drop them off and get on with your day.

Legendary banjoist Bob Black and Banjoy to perform in Garrison, April 17

Bob & Kristie Black and Banjoy will perform at Garrison's Famers Mercantile Hall on April 17 Farmers Mercantile Hall will host legendary banjoist Bob Black and his band, Banjoy, Sunday, April 17th for an afternoon performance. BANJOY is a bluegrass band with a unique and personal style. Relaxed and friendly on stage, Banjoy plays everything from classic bluegrass and gospel songs to originals and lively instrumentals. Harmony singing is an important part of Banjoy’s repertoire, and the top notch instrumental talents of the group are well-known and respected throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Wood burning canoe paddle class set for April 7

on Thursday, April 7, from 6 - 8:30 pm,. there will be a Wood-burning Canoe Paddle class at the Benton Co. Nature Center at 5718 20th Ave Drive, Vinton. Whether you want to hang it on the wall or use it for paddling your canoe around, we will help you personalize your own canoe paddle. Participants will be taught how to wood-burn their own paddle that they will get to take home.

'Make it and take it' quilting event set for April 9

On Saturday April 9th at 1:30 P.M. we will have a fun "Make it and Take" it at the Viking Sewing Center in Vinton. The  sampler we will be making is of half square triangle possibilities. This class is for beginners as well as those who want to know the possibilities that this technique can provide for many designs of quilts.

'Taste of Vinton' set for May 14

Join us on Saturday, May 14 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm for the annual Taste of Vinton Wine Walk. The experience begins in Celebration Park where you will check-in, receive your passport and other information. You will then travel through the Vinton community sampling a variety of products while comparing notes and learning about each selection by our experts! Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Bus-eum to bring displays on Iowa settlers, POW camp to Vinton

On Tuesday, April 5, Michael Luick-Thrams and Irving Kellman will be here with their 44 foot Bus-eum. There are photographs, interactive displays, and video all dealing with “ At Home in the Heartland – how Iowans got to be us.” Irving pretty much stays inside the bus, but Michael will be available to chat and share stories with anyone.
